Treesilience is a growing national initiative focusing on removing the barriers to healthy canopy which currently includes removal and replacement of dead or dying trees, mature tree maintenance and site preparation to improve planting conditions for new plantings. We focus on areas where canopy is either threatened or already lost, and prioritize communities where our neighbors stand to gain the most from more resilient urban forests.
Treesilience is administered nationally by The Nature Conservancy with generous support from the USDA Forest Service, in collaboration with strategic partner Davey Tree Expert Company.

Tree MaintenanceMature trees provide the most benefits to people and nature. To improve the resilience and longevity of mature trees, Treesilience efforts include tree-pruning on private property (primarily), prioritizing communities that will gain the most from healthier trees. |
tree Replacement Some trees have reached the end of their lifecycle and must be removed. All participants in Treesilience are committed to caring for a newly planted tree to replace those removed. Efforts are made to repurpose the wood from removals within the local community whenever possible. |
workforce developmentAn important component of a resilient urban forest is a strong tree care workforce in each community. To help implement Treesilience in communities, nonprofit partners lead career exploration and workforce development programs designed to improve access to career opportunities within the green industry. |
